Here’s Why Your Dog Doesn’t Listen

Almost a year ago I wrote an article for Animal Wellness Magazine detailing the reasons that dogs don’t listen. The goal of the article was to bring a new understanding in owners of their supposedly stubborn or so-called “dominant” dog behavior. The reasons dogs really don’t listen to us surprised many readers and shocked others. In any case, when our dogs ignore us it’s often annoying and sometimes aggravating.

It can be frustrating when your dog doesn’t listen to you. Sometimes, it’s a command you know the dog knows because he does it perfectly at home, in the backyard, or at dog classes. Just not now, when you need him to do it.

Is It A Dominance Issue?

Is it a dominance issue when your dog doesn’t listen? Not according to the world’s leading canine ethologists (scientists who study dog behavior). These experts agree that dogs are never out to dominate their owners. What’s more, attempting to dominate our dogs can be confusing and frightening to them. Such confusion can elicit aggressive-looking behaviors aimed at self-defence. I’m going to link to the article as it appeared in the March 30, 2022 article in Animal Wellness Magazine. I hope you enjoy it and get a better understanding of why your dog ignores you completely from time to time.
